Do you love me more than these?

John 21:15-17
15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

This scripture is part of the story of the final days of Jesus in the world.

Don’t forget that Jesus initially said to peter
“From now on, you will no more catch fishes but man”. This was Christ giving peter a new assignment.

But one day, peter and his fellow disciples decided to go and catch fish. From the scripture above, Jesus asked Simon peter if he loved him more than these.
What are “These”

“These” are our hand work
“These”  are what keeps us awake all through the night
“These”  are our family members
“These”  are our Ministries
“These”  are our Education
“These”  are our businesses
“These” are our money, friends, fame and wealth.

Peter forgot his calling, forgot that nothing is more important than a relationship with God.

Child of God, how dip is your love for God over all “these things”?
Do you work all day and forget your spiritual life?
Because of keeping relationships and ties, you keep God and his laws aside.
Because of money, fame and friends, you have left the position God had placed you.
What are you doing to get good grades in school?

For Jesus said “Anyone who loves his father, mother or brethren more than I is not worthy of me”
A Pastor told a story of how God rebuked him for neglect in reading the Bible and spending time in prayer. For he did lots of Evangelism and Revival programs and spent little or no time building his spiritual status and asking for His will. According to him, God was more interested in him keeping up his spiritual life over all the Ministrations he was doing.
Jesus asked, “Son, do you love me more than these things?”
God help us.
