The pursuit of PEACE: a function of self denial.Ogba Victor
Genesis 13 vs 8
So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no contention between you and me, or between your herdsmen and my herdsmen. After all, we are brothers. 9Is not the whole land before you? Now separate yourself from me. If you go to the left, I will go to the right; if you go to the right, I will go to the left.”…
Wherever there is peace, there is two things involved.
1. Someone is working hard to maintain peace.
2. Someone is denying himself some certain rights in order to maintain peace.
Peace is not cheap. It comes with great sacrifice and selfless efforts.
Two entities or communities staying together has 100% chance to misunderstand each other.
The reason is quite simple, we humans think and react differently.
The act of peace is a Man or woman’s ability to defeat and deny his or her ‘SELF’.
For if ‘SELF’ still lives in you, you will never find peace.
Jesus said “If any man desires to follow me, he must deny himself”
From to passage above, Abraham who was Lot’s Uncle and senior denied himself the right to choose first in the quest for peaceful coexistence and relationship.
That quarrel between a man and his wife is because they are yet to learn ‘the act of PEACE’.
So can be said of war among brothers of same family. Fights among Church members, even those of same church.
Not understanding the meaning of self denial is the reason lots of Christian marriages are wrecked. For there is absolutely no reason a Man and a woman living together will never have misunderstanding at a point. And the ability of a partner to deny ‘SELF’ is all that yields peace.
This could be also said of Church members, fellow workers and even among so called Pastors who are quarreling And fighting themselves over position, respect, money or whatever it may be.
Self tells you that as the man of the house, the woman should do the apology and self tells the woman same.
Self tells the leader that his decision is unquestionable.
Self is the reason why there is turmoil in the country, among church leaders and Christians.
No man who is full of ‘SELF’ has any part with God. And such man can hardly live in peace.
For except ‘SELF’ is dead among believers in Christ, peace will be hard to find.
Why not swallow the insult? Why not take the blame? Why not play a fool?
For peace is bought with the sacrifice of Self.
For the pursuit of PEACE is a function of SELF DENIAL.
