We disagree with the Pope on his ‘Passport to Haeaven’.

“If in the eyes of the world they (the poor) have little value, they are the ones who open to us the way to heaven; they are our ‘passport to paradise’”.

Pope Francis; the leader of the Catholic Church celebrated a Mass marking the Roman Catholic Church’s first yearly ‘World Day of the Poor’, which the pope established to draw the attention of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics to the neediest.

He said this when he welcomed the poor, homeless and unemployed as guests of honor for a Mass and gourmet meal in the Vatican on Sunday.

Volunteers from charity organizations brought about 7,000 needy people to St Peter’s Basilica for a special Mass celebrated by the pope, who has made defense of the poor, immigrants and downtrodden a major plank of his papacy.

About 1,500 of them were having lunch with the pope in the Vatican’s large audience hall and others were being taken to eat as guests in nearby pontifical colleges.
Most of the needy people were from Rome and other parts of Italy but charity groups also brought groups from France, Spain, Germany and Poland but none from Africa where the world’s poorest live. According to The Pope,

“If in the eyes of the world they (the poor) have little value, they are the ones who open to us the way to heaven; they are our ‘passport to paradise’. For us it is an evangelical duty to care for them …,” he said in his homily.
“God will not ask us if we felt righteous indignation, but whether we did some good,”

—–Pope Francis

But we disagree with the Pope on his first statement.

Clearly, It is part of our evangeligal duty to care for the poor. It is also clear from the Bible that we should do good to the less privilege in our soceity.

Proverbs 22:9 (ESV) “Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.”

Galatians 2:10 (ESV) “Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.”

But taking care of the poor, doing charity work, even giving all you have to others and all forms human righteous acts is not a ticket or passport to heaven.

In fact, one could do charity all the days of his life, sow seed both in Church and to the society, even do acts of love and godliness and still has no passport to Heaven, Paradise or The Book of Names.

There is only one passport to Heaven and that is knowing and accepting Jesus as lord and king.

◄ John 6:29

28 Then they inquired, “What must we do to perform the works of God?” 29 Jesus replied, “This is the work of God: to believe in the One He has sent.

◄John 3:16►

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Now, accepting the lordship of Christ encompasses all forms of righteousness and doing exactly what he has said. For  Charity, Godliness, Holiness, Love, Faith and Hope are all what he has commanded us to do.

For if you do not do these other righteous acts, it shows you have not truly accepted the lordship of Christ. But If you truly know  and accept Jesus as lord and king you already have a ticket to heaven.

God expects us to show love and do goodly works but all these minus genuine fellowship with Jesus is nothing but futile efforts. You will be rewarded by God’s natural laws of giving and receiving but You will have no passport to Heaven come the END of Days.
